Nantes
We made it to Nantes by early afternoon today, after an easy 21-mile ride from Blain under a blue sky.

We also passed the 500-mile mark (approx. 300 in England and 200 in France). Woot!
Nantes Camping is very comfortable and we plan to be here for two nights. We stashed our bikes in the campsite this afternoon and took the tram downtown. We visited an incredible art supply store, which had Ruby and Lyle drooling. We also ducked into a massive cathedral with some gorgeous bronze statues. This was my favorite.
We lit a candle for Rose. :-)
Tomorrow we will check out the pool (with water slide), the mini golf, and the Ile de Nantes with its Jules Vern-inspired steam punk art park. We are especially looking forward to the famous mechanical elephant.

An easy 21 miles! Blue sky! Now you're cookin'! 500 miles! Woot!
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you! Now I'm having tears in my eyes.. I too love that bronze statue :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful update, dear, thank you. Love the statue, and how lovely that you could light such a beautiful candle for Rose. So glad you're having fun. What a gorgeous bike path, and how fun that you took the tram into town. Can you tell us about some of your campground meals? What you're cooking, what you're buying at local stores? When do you get to Melissa's?
ReplyDeleteLast night we had couscous, chickpeas, and ratatouille (from a can) and salad - yum! Tonight will be pasta, sauce, and tofu. Lots of success with meals — the kids seem to be willing to eat pretty much anything. Amazing. I guess they are really hungry! We are buying lots of fruit — cherries, nectarines, peaches, apricots, blueberries, oranges. I talked to Melissa last night and our goal is to get there by next Thursday or Friday and stay through the weekend. We have a lot to learn about transportation options between now and then. Xo
DeleteZip-a-dee doo-dah! My oh my what a wonderful day! I love the statue and the candle and the fact that you are staying 2 nights in the same place. Hope the blue sky holds.
ReplyDeleteThose French biking paths look truly amazing! A couple of days to relax, play mini-golf, soak up art, and rest are well-earned!
