So many castles
Today was filled with castles and flat riding and treats and a nice campground with a pool. There was strong competition for the cutest old village, finally won by Bacharach. When in the neighborhood, do look it up.
The kids enjoyed spying the castles around every corner, and while we didn’t trek up to any today, nobody felt like we had missed out.
Our campground is full of hundreds of people, which means a fair amount of small kid noises, but we have hopes for a reasonable night’s sleep in this amazing transportation corridor. Barges and cruise ships on the river, passenger and freight trains on both sides of the river, cars and trucks, and then blimps and helicopters above. In the middle are the bikes. If you ride a bike, you get treats.
We are camping with a nice couple from Tasmania today who are riding South with their 2- & 5-year-olds. Two bikes with a trailer each. Wow, that’s a lot of work. We will try to send them on their way with what we have found for camping south of here. They are headed for Switzerland and will take another 6 weeks to get there and see things. Good for them!
Tomorrow we try to traverse Koblenz (rumored to be unpleasant) to a vaunted spot further north. Things look good for us, and we expect to have another good day.-Dave
Very nice report! Everything is coming together as you head north and east. Hope you can find an easy route... is there a EuroVelo choice? And not every day do you get to ride with a few Tasmanians!
ReplyDeleteKeep on having fun! And don't forget to offer the kids an occasional treat as an incentive for this next 1000 miles...
If I show the kids those ice cream sundaes, there will be hell to pay! Looks like it was a gorgeous and fun day. Hope you did get some sleep.
