The sea!
After eight hundred miles of pedaling along the Rhine and Maas Rivers, we finally made it to the sea. It was a thrill to put our toes in the water this afternoon!

We feel triumphant to have reached the coast where the rivers we’ve followed flow into the North Sea.
It was an intense push today. There was a gusty, swirly, powerful wind blowing northeast at 17 mph all day. The force of the wind increased as we neared our destination of Rockanje.
The thought of sand dunes and playing on the beach kept us going. We arrived at the campground around 3 pm and by the time we walked to the beach the stormy gray skies had cleared and we had sunshine. Yay!
There were hundreds of kite surfers zooming back and forth on the choppy water. Fierce wind, sunshine, and colorful sails — what a scene. It was fun to watch the surfers leap into the air and do tricks.
Tomorrow evening Gesa and family arrive from Bayreuth to join us. We will be a crew of 9 biking south through Zeeland for the next five days. Fun!

ReplyDeleteLove this post, Liv! The scene sounds so exciting. I love the pic of the kids saying good-bye to the route signs. : ) Congratulations! Nice duck/duckling photo, too, and the one of you in the sea is gorgeous.
