Three countries, one day
Tonight we are in Kembs, France, having reached the Rhein, crossed the river to Germany, and crossed again to France at the end of the day.
Camping du Canal has a pool, which the kids had to themselves this afternoon. Pools are fun!— Liv
The most stressful part of the day was the urban bicycling in and around Basel. Construction, train tracks, tram cars, and traffic made for a tense experience. But, we made it just fine.
Basel’s 14th century cathedral was the high point of the day. We explored the peaceful cobblestone courtyard, the shady square, and the church itself, which had bishops entombed in the necropolis from the 900s! We also took a self-guided belfry tour, up and up and up a narrow spiral staircase past looming bells and into the sky. What a view!
We timed our climb for the 12 o’clock bell ringing session and were relieved to find that we could still hear afterwards.
28 miles today. We spent our last Swiss francs on gelato before leaving the country.

Wonderful post, Liv! Congratulations on negotiating the urban chaos in Basel. It's such a relief to get back to the countryside. Beautiful bell! Fun climb into the sky. Yummy gelato! I took Gpa G up the hill for his spinal shot this morning. xoxox
