Beautiful Bruges
A fine rest day spent in a beautiful city enjoying special experiences. Our lovely enclave of velo tourism and international relations is wonderful -

Tomorrow we begin the final legs. Not much for sightseeing, and miles to go regardless of weather. We are rested and ready.
And having the time to enjoy a special market full of flowers and produce and other food is wonderful-
The market allowed us to bolster our lunch of rolls (Belguim is not known for its bread, nor should it be) with some rotisserie goodness from one of the trucks. After chicken and potatoes and steamed green beans, we tried to find some kind of bread product that Belgians do well -
And Ruby suggested we should also review one of the local Chocolatiers as well, so we did that-
Exhausted from a morning of hard touristing, we retreated to camp for some rest and 11 million phone calls to try to organize the last few days' camping arrangements. We have a pretty big day of rain scheduled as well as the non negotiable points of a ferry to England and that whole plane flight thing. A successful afternoon tying up loose ends and then after supper we made one more pilgrimage over the cobbles to have an evening carriage tour, with Naomi doing the work -
A surprisingly wonderful way to see the city with our young guide/driver. Liv and I were thrilled to not have to be watching where we were going for once, and clopping along in streets that were starting to be less crowded was really a treat-
It turns out that one of the best ways to meet people at a campground is to be the guy with all the adaptors to steal electricity. Strangely I find myself being that guy, and so again tonight we have met a crowd of folks who need to recharge their devices. A strange icebreaker.
Finally, to prove that I did in fact bring a second shirt on this adventure, which I only bring out for high holy days-

This is a great post. Love the pic of Lyle and Ruby pointing out the sights on the carriage ride. You guys do things right....I remember our just standing and gazing at the carriages, but not springing for a ride. Sounds like a perfect day except for the multi-million phone calls. Ruby found Belgian chocolate! Hope she got to taste some.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't get any better than this! Sounds like a wonderful day in Bruges. Thanks for all great photos to flesh out the excellent description your day. You guys are making so many good decisions! And thanks for proving you did bring an extra shirt for the high holy days. So now you begin the final leg. Still planning a bike-free stop in Iceland? Careful with that rain... slow but sure will be the ticket from now on. How many miles have you ridden? And how many to go?
ReplyDeleteAbout 1590 ridden and 160 ish to go.
