Onward to Belgium

Last night’s sleep next to the wheat field was one of the quietest, most peaceful nights of the trip. What a treat to hear nothing but the wind in the trees all through the night.
This morning we rode along the beach and then inland to Retranchement and Sluis. After lunch we followed a canal all the way to Bruges.
We are camped in a densely-packed settlement of tents with a very international crew of cyclists, motorcyclists, and backpackers. It’s a fun scene, and the French family we met a few days ago in Rockanje is here. Our next door neighbors include a British/Venezuelan guy, a Swiss guy with a spectacular white mullet, and a Spanish couple in their matching spandex who are very serious and fit.
The day included a fun, hand-cranked ferry across a canal...

After a much-needed shower and laundry session, we proceeded into Bruges for an evening on the town.

What a cool city. Looking forward to spending tomorrow exploring!

  1. Again, the best post yet! Quite the international scene... such an invaluable situation to expose the kids to. We loved Bruges. Remember the bell tower? Liv, it makes me very happy you're back there with your own family. We can only hope your kids can repeat the experience. Enjoy! Thanks for the wonderful descriptions of your biking holiday.
