Zeeland!

We are enjoying a brief ‘vacation’ interlude on the beach in Southern Holland as we make our final progression back to the ferry to England. We first heard the beauty of Zeeland from a drunken Dutch woman at Lake Neuchatel what seems like years ago, and have had it on our list of fun things for the kids that didn’t require much riding.  With two Oregon-born kids, not even the gale force winds keep them from enjoying themselves -

We have also been joined for a few days by Christoph and Gesa and their family, on locally rented bikes and actually on real vacation-

We are quite a force now, lumbering down the bike path in a ramshackle formation -

We are enjoying the chance to go much shorter distances for a few days, and take longer breaks -

It is fun to share our travels with another family, even if it does make us realize how accustomed we have become to traveling as a small unit-

We will just have time to get used to our new system before we need to get back to our old ground-covering ways and head through a small piece of Belgium on our way to Dunkirk.  Zeeland is beautiful in its own windswept way, but I must admit that I am partial to some of the little Dutch villages that we wandered through as we came down the Maas.  This is a very touristy place, which is fine as we are tourists too, but so much of the adventure has been in the small places off the beaten track.  I look forward to more of that before we are through -

  1. Great to read today's installment, Dave, and see the beautiful photos of sun and beach and familiar faces. I agree all the way about quaint villages off the beaten path. Give our love to the Thomases---looks like Levke brought along her phone!

  2. Woot! Great photos, very nice story of a new chapter in your adventures! Very nice to see the Thomas family looking so healthy and happy. Good for you guys for making this dual-family interlude happen. Thanks for keeping us informed... you're doin' great! I'm picturing the scene in the campground this evening as you and Chris try to drink all the cold beer in Zeeland! Damn tomorrow!
